Essayist, short story author, renowned novelist and one of the cleverest writers of our time.

The New York Times Review of Books named Golden Boys, a collection of short stories as “Notable Book of the Year”. He has published essay collections and contributes regularly to Commentary, The New Yorker, Harper's, New Republic, New York Review of Books and The Weekly Standard. He won the Harold Washington Literary Award for the most prominent man or woman of letters in Chicago in 1998. He combines his editorial work with activism as a member of the Administrative Council from the Hudson Institute, a 'think tank' focused on themes in social sciences.
