JERRY COYNE is a professor in the department of ecology and evolution at the University of Chicago.

He works on diverse areas of evolutionary genetics. The main focus of his laboratory is on the original problem raised by Darwin — the origin of species — and on understanding this process through the genetic patterns it produces. He is also interested ecological and evolutionary genetics.
